Austrian artist Gerwald Rockenschaub (born 1952 in Linz) has designed a special edition packaging for the Less skin care products. The special edition packaging for Less comes at no extra-charge with each washing clay and face oil and is available from now on as long as stock lasts (sold out).
Rockenschaub is one of the most renowned and successful artists in Austria and is especially known for his foil pictures and site-related installations. In 1993 he designed the Austrian pavilion of the Venice Biennale. In 2007 he contributed several works to the documenta 12 in Kassel. In 2008 he created the facade design of the Temporäre Kunsthalle in Berlin. In 2014 he received the Golden Medal for services to the Republic of Austria.
The work of Gerwald Rockenschaub has been associated with Neo-Geo since the early 1980s, when a group of young artists concentrated on the formal vocabulary of the abstract avant-garde. Neo-Geo permeated the aesthetics of American minimal art with the consumeristic position of pop art. Rockenschaub's art cannot be simply categorized in any particular style. In his animations, foil pictures, objects and site-related installations, he refers in equal measure to ideas and positions of modernism and to phenomena of everyday culture. In an act of radical reduction and concentration (the two basic principles of the artist's method), these are scaled down to bare essentials.
Gerwald Rockenschaub has had solo exhibitions at the Kunstmuseum Wolfsburg, Kunstmuseum St. Gallen, Sammlung Goetz Munich, Mumok Vienna, Kunstmuseum Luzern, Kunstverein Hamburg, Kunsthalle Bern, The Schaufler Foundation and Secession Vienna, among others. He is represented by galleries Thaddaeus Ropac (Paris, London, Salzburg), Eva Presenhuber (New York, Zurich), Mehdi Chouakri (Berlin) and Vera Munro (Hamburg). He lives and works in Berlin.
